Farm Provisions: Small Batch Production

It’s been on my mind a lot lately to use as much as can be reasonably used from the farm and property to make products to support this venture. Anyone that owns a home or farm will know that the projects are never ending, and the lists of things to be fixed or made seems to get longer everyday. But I also firmly believe that God wouldn’t have put us here if thriving were not a possibility.
Often in my morning and evening chore times, I will stand and stare at what we have and envision in my mind would could be. It’s nothing extra-ordinary to want to make things more functional and beautiful for us. But also, there is a quote from St Theresa of Avila that says something to the effect of, “You do God a compliment by asking great things of him.” And so it crossed my mind to ask for some big things!

There are the day to day things that would help, like our tractor working, and the barn being fixed. I also have some bigger things in mind, like having path ways with gardens of different sorts and …I think probably my biggest dream is to have a building for community folk crafts and arts classes and events. I’m dreaming big here. There’s no reason that I can’t do that. I’d love for the things on the farm, the gardens and classes, etc., to be able to support the farm but also to support events for special needs community to come and enjoy some things as well. There isn’t a whole lots that is available to us out here in the boonies, but there is a very big need! It’s easy for us families with special needs members to isolate and give up on something more. It’s hard work to put things together, and hard to get out sometimes.
To have accessible events for this sort of community would be wonderful. It’s a subject close to my own heart, taking into account my own child with special needs. Also, my hope is to have some classes where this population can learn some new skills that may be of profit to them for future use. There isn’t a reason why people with special needs can’t participate in making art, gardening, learning some other folk type skills that they could use to make products that could be sold to benefit them with further opportunities for education and enjoyment.
I’m dreaming big here, my friends. I’m not certain on the how’s and who could help, but I’m confident that God will provide the way if I keep at it.
