DIY Lavender Magnesium Bath Bombs Recipe

Bath bombs are not something that I would typically use. They seem very luxurious and almost flamboyant to me. I’m pretty simple–I just like a quick shower. The only time I ever spent any time in a bath was when I was pregnant and using the buoyancy to alleviate the weight and pain I was in. But I do have two good reasons for my recent admiration for these luxurious bath treats. The first is that I am an avid sandal wearer during the warmer months, so my feet tend to get dry and rough which doesn’t make for very enjoyable feeling against the bed sheets. Snagging your heels on the sheets is a definite turn off! And secondly, I have a small person who doesn’t like to wear shoes most of the time, and she also can have some avoidance towards bathing. (She is autistic and has Down syndrome and has some aversions towards being scrubbed down!) These bath bombs are great for soften your tootsies, and loosening dirt, as well as being wonderfully relaxing due to the Lavender and Magnesium flakes.

The process of making the bath bombs is pretty simple. You’re stirring the dry ingredients together and adding just enough liquid for it to come together like moist sand. I added lavender from my garden in for the scent and because they are also pretty!

Rather than using water to bring the ingredients together, I used Witch Hazel. You have to be careful to add only a tiny bit at a time so that they mixture doesn’t start to bubble up prematurely. And once the mixture is ready, I used some vintage tart pants to form the bath bombs.

I’m all for fix-it-and-forget-it, so getting the mixture into the pans and then letting them sit overnight in a dry space worked perfectly. Using a knife, I simply popped them out of the pans after drying all night. I dropped mine into a jar for safe keeping. You want to keep them away from moisture until you are ready to use them.

  1. These are amazing! Where did you find the tart trays! I’m guessing while thrifting! My daughters’ and DILS’ favourite pastime!

  2. What brand of magnesium salts do you use? Does it matter? I am thinking to order the ancient minerals brand from Amazon but wanted to check first if this would work?

    • I’ve used a few different brands. For this recipe I used Earth and Envy, which I ordered on Amazon. But I’ve also found some great deals on Magnesium Salts at Marshall’s. I’ve found a 2 lb tub for around $10. As long as you check the ingredients to verify that it’s pure, that is a pretty great way to find some at a reasonable price.
